Thailand, August 2025

When Thomas arrived in Bangkok to begin his internship with LightBlue Consulting, he wasn’t sure what to expect. What he found was heat, scooters, new friends, and a chance to stretch his skills in ways he hadn’t imagined.

Originally from a small town near Lyon, France, Thomas brought with him a strong technical background, a curious mind, and a quiet confidence. His internship on the LightBlue FIT Tech team quickly became more than a resume builder—it was an opportunity to contribute, adapt, and make ideas happen.

It was a crash course in sustainability, proactivity, and… a dish of grilled chicken and noodles.

I. Meet Thomas: From Lyon to Bangkok

Thomas, 23, had dabbled in English during a previous internship, but this was his first time working fully in English. And while vacationing abroad was familiar, working and living in Thailand was a first.

"It was a bit intimidating at first," he admits. "But working in English every day helped me improve a lot."

His mornings usually began with a shower, coffee, and sometimes a run with Augustin, a fellow intern and friend. Then it was off to LightBlue’s office to dive into data, automation ideas, and problem-solving.

II. First Impressions: From Scooter Taxis to Sa-Wat-Dee

Thailand left a strong first impression. "I was pleasantly surprised by the lifestyle here," Thomas says. "Even though it’s incredibly hot."

One thing that stood out early? Scooter taxis.

"The first time you hop on a Grab motorbike... it’s kind of wild," he laughs.

While the heat and humidity were tough, Thomas appreciated the rhythm of Thai life—friendly people, casual culture, and a workplace that encouraged exploration.

III. Challenges & Highlights: When a Small Team Means Big Growth

Thomas worked primarily with FIT Food Waste Tech, a system designed to help restaurants and hotels track and reduce food waste in an affordable and scalable way.

Midway through his internship, the FIT team became smaller. "At first it felt a bit disorienting," he shares. "There were a lot of projects I would have loved to tackle, so ideally more time would have been ideal."

Yet that same limitation became his greatest opportunity.

“Because I was on my own a lot, I had full ownership. I could propose ideas and carry them out from A to Z.”

He worked on backend tasks, supported consultants, and even explored ideas like chatbot development and data prediction—although he wishes he had more time to dive deeper into those areas. His one reflection? “I wish I’d taken more initiative in client-facing settings. That’s an area I’d love to grow in next.”

IV. Skills Gained: From Data to Drive

The #1 skill Thomas says he took away from his time at LightBlue?

Autonomy.

"You learn to solve problems on your own, and to respond quickly to consultant requests. I also became more comfortable proposing ideas that I thought could improve things."

His role required more than technical knowledge—it demanded initiative, flexibility, and the ability to execute under changing conditions. And Thomas rose to that challenge.

V. Advice for the Next Interns?

For anyone thinking about joining LightBlue, Thomas has one simple tip:

“Don’t be afraid to talk to everyone. The team is really friendly, and once you feel comfortable, it’s much easier to ask questions, suggest ideas, and make the most of your internship.”

He also recommends leaning into the independence that comes with the role: "You have the freedom to shape your own experience. Use it."
